What is Pixel Chicken?

Pixel Chicken is a free browser RPG that you can play instantly — no download required. Jump in from any device with a web browser and start your adventure right away.

The game takes place in Yolkshire, a farm-themed fantasy world filled with danger, treasure, and plenty of feathers. Climb the Mountain, dive the Eggvault Labyrinth, explore the open world of Island Vale across more than a dozen biomes, join a guild with other players, test your strength in PvP duels, and unlock over 21 playable characters along the way.

Pixel Chicken is 100% free to play with no pay-to-win mechanics. Every player has access to the same content and the same progression path.

Creating Your Account

Getting started takes just a moment. You can register with an email address or sign in instantly using your Google or Apple account.

Once you are in, you will pick your first character. The Chicken is the default starter, but you can choose from several free characters right away. Characters in Pixel Chicken are purely cosmetic — they change how you look but do not affect your stats or abilities. Pick whichever one you like best and you can always switch later from My Nest.

The Hub

Your adventure begins at Yolkshire Square — the central hub where all the important buildings are gathered. Think of it as your home base. Here is what you will find:

• The Mountain — Your main climb: numbered floors that get tougher as you go.
• The Cursed Cellar — The key-gated dungeon, with wave fights and guaranteed boss loot.
• The Forge — Upgrade and repair your gear, socket proc gems, and evolve relics.
• The Shrine of Power — Spend Skill Points on the talent trees.
• The Quest Hub — Daily and weekly quests, story chapters, and Field farming tasks.
• Expedition Harbor — Set sail for Island Vale, the open-world area.
• My Nest — Your profile, stats, and character switching.
• The Rat — The Black Market. Plus the Leaderboard, to see the top climbers.

Each building serves a specific purpose, and you will use most of them regularly as you progress. Take some time to explore the hub and get familiar with what is available.

Combat Basics

Combat in Pixel Chicken is auto-combat with strategic elements. Your character attacks automatically once a fight begins — you do not need to tap or click for each swing.

Damage is determined by your ATK (attack power) versus the enemy's DEF (defense), and vice versa. The stronger your gear, the harder you hit and the more damage you can absorb.

During combat, enemies will drop buff orbs that you can collect for temporary advantages:

• Attack Boost — Temporarily increases your damage output.
• Defense Boost — Reduces incoming damage for a short time.
• Heal — Restores a portion of your health.
• Speed — Makes your character attack faster.

You also have a hotbar for consumable items. If a fight is getting tough, pop a potion or use a buff item to turn the tide.

As you progress further, you will encounter deeper combat mechanics like lifesteal, critical hit chance, and proc gems that trigger special effects (Chain, Freeze, Cleave, and Burn). These add layers of strategy to how you build and equip your character.

The Mountain

The Mountain is your main progression path — a climb made up of numbered floors, each filled with enemies you must defeat to advance. Clear every enemy on a floor and an exit portal appears; step through it to move up.

Every 5th floor features a boss fight. Bosses are significantly tougher than regular enemies but drop better rewards. When you defeat a boss, a portal appears — step through it to unlock the next set of floors.

Floors get progressively harder as you climb, but they also reward more gold and XP. If you find yourself stuck, spend some time leveling up (which upgrades your gear automatically) and improving your gems, relics, and talents before trying again.

The Mountain itself is free to enter — no keys required. (Keys are for the separate Cursed Cellar dungeon.) Clearing floor 10 unlocks the Eggvault Labyrinth, and around floor 15 the Expedition Harbor opens Island Vale. Island Vale (Open World)

Once you unlock the Expedition Harbor in the hub (around Mountain floor 15), you can set sail for Island Vale — a sprawling open-world area with 6 unique biomes to explore.

In Island Vale you can build camps, discover waypoints for fast travel, craft food at campfires to restore health and gain buffs, and take on powerful world bosses with other players.

Gear & The Forge

Your two pieces of equipment — a weapon (sets your ATK) and armor (sets your Max HP and DEF) — are your biggest source of power. The important thing to know: you do not loot or buy them. They upgrade automatically as you level up, climbing through eight tiers all the way to endgame.

So what do you collect from chests and enemies? Gold and proc gems. You bring those to the Forge, where you socket proc gems into your weapon for bonus combat effects, repair durability, and evolve relics:

• Chain — Hits can arc to nearby enemies.
• Freeze — Chance to temporarily stop an enemy in place.
• Cleave — Attacks deal splash damage to multiple foes.
• Burn — Applies damage over time to enemies you hit.

Guilds & Social

Pixel Chicken is more fun with other players. You can join an existing guild or create your own to team up with friends.

Guild members share a Guild Hall and can chat together in guild chat. You can also send direct messages to any player, whether they are in your guild or not.

If you are feeling competitive, PvP duels let you test your build against other players. It is a great way to see how your gear and strategy stack up.

Tips for New Players

• Start with the Mountain. Climbing floors is the fastest way to earn gold and XP — and to level up, which is what upgrades your gear.
• Your weapon and armor auto-upgrade as you level. You never loot or buy them — leveling advances them through eight tiers on its own. What you actually collect from chests and kills is gold and proc gems (socket those at the Forge). The in-game item shop is The Rat (the Black Market), which trades exclusive unlocks for PvP Tokens you earn later on.
• Use buff orbs during boss fights. Those heal and attack boost orbs can be the difference between victory and defeat on a tough boss.
• Don't rush. Pixel Chicken is designed for steady progression. If a floor feels too hard, go back and strengthen your character before pushing forward.
• Check the Shrine of Power. Once you unlock it, the Shrine offers permanent power boosts through the talent tree. Even small investments pay off over time. See the Talent Tree Guide for details.
• Set up Field tasks. Passive farming earns you rewards while you are away. Start a task before you log off and collect the rewards next time you play.
• Join a guild. Even if you prefer to play solo, guild membership gives you access to guild chat and a community of players who can help with tips and strategy.
