These are the counterintuitive rules that trip up almost everyone at least once. Skimming them ahead of time avoids Pixel Chicken's most common "wait, what just happened?" moments.

Why did I get no XP or gold on that floor?

You almost certainly left a Mountain floor without advancing. Retreating, dying and walking out, or leaving partway through "consumes" the floor and forfeits its XP and gold — an anti-farm rule so you cannot grind one floor forever. You can still clear and advance it; it just will not pay a second time. Finish a floor before you leave it.

Should I ever leave a dungeon run early?

No. Dying in the Cursed Cellar is free (instant respawn), but leaving mid-run forfeits the whole run and the Dungeon Key you spent. If you are struggling, keep dying and pushing rather than walking out.

I killed a world boss but got no trophies. Why?

World-boss rewards must be claimed after the kill, within a short proof window — they are not automatic. Also, each lair has a 4-hour personal cooldown, so re-killing the same boss too soon pays nothing.

A teammate and I killed the same boss — why did I get almost nothing?

On shared enemies (Island Vale world and mega bosses), only the player who tagged the enemy earns full rewards. Everyone else gets a 25% XP assist and no gold or drops. Land your own hits on your own targets.

My damage suddenly feels terrible. Did I get nerfed?

Check your durability. Fully broken gear deals roughly half its ATK/DEF. A quick Repair at the Forge usually restores the lost power instantly.

The hub Shrine and the Eggvault shrine — are they the same thing?

No, they just share a name. The hub's Shrine of Power is where you spend Skill Points on talents. A shrine inside an Eggvault run is a one-time picker for a temporary run boon.

Are Feather Shards and Gold the same currency?

No. Inside an Eggvault run you use both: Gold pays the in-run shop (Healing Draught, Extra Revive), while Feather Shards are the meta currency — earned only when you clear a tier, and spent only at the Shellwarden's Shop on Artifacts.

What unlocks the Eggvault and Island Vale?

Clear Mountain floor 10 to open the Eggvault Labyrinth, and around floor 15 the Expedition Harbor opens Island Vale. If a mode seems missing, keep climbing.

When should I Prestige?

Only at player level 250, and only when you are comfortable resetting your Mountain floor to 1. You keep your level, gear, gold, talents, and relics — you are trading floor progress for a permanent star's worth of ATK/DEF (and cosmetics). Five stars is the maximum.

Can I undo my talent choices?

Yes, anytime. Visit the Shrine of Power and respec — it refunds all Skill Points for a Gold cost that scales with your level. There is no cooldown, so experiment freely.

How many biomes does Island Vale have?

Six: The Basin, The Oasis, Death Valley, Storm Shelf, Magma Cradle, and Crypt Verge, from easiest (the Dock) to hardest. (The Mountain has its own separate set of ten biomes — do not confuse the two.)

Is there anything I can buy with real money?

No. Every currency — including Grubs and PvP Tokens — is earned entirely through gameplay. There are no real-money purchases and no pay-to-win.
